Competition and Markets Authority contacted about potential PRN restrictive practice

12 NOVEMBER 2018

The Advisory Committee on Packaging has sent a letter to all packaging reprocessors, exporters and compliance schemes to advise them that the Competition and Markets Authority has been contacted about potential restrictive practices in the issue of aluminium PRNs.

Despite aluminium recycling figures indicating a reasonable surplus for this year, prices have now hit £100 due to the lack of availability of PRNs. Indications are that PRNs are being withheld by some accredited operators to inflate the price, an activity that could be classed as an illegal restrictive practice.
