Q2 packaging recycling data

The EA has just published the Q2 packaging recycling data. Ironically, it shows the highest level of plastics exports since the regulations began which for those with plastics obligations under the packaging regulations, is good news as it is already causing plastic PRN prices to fall. Other materials were also well up on Q1 including wood which saw a much stronger performance which hopefully gets us back on track to meet this year’s target. Unfortunately, whilst paper volumes increased, they did not increase enough to get things back on track for the overall recycling target, so it seems likely that paper PRN prices – along with steel and glass – will remain at current levels for a while.
